Write Links Member June Perkins Is Taking Her ‘MAGIC FISH DREAMING’ On A KICKSTARTER WAVE

Picture

Write Links members have been anticipating this particular Kickstarter for many months! June Perkins, author, poet and blogger has created a quality children’s book, and the combination of the poems dancing on the page and the magical illustrations by Helene Magisson (The Velveteen Rabbit) this will be a family favourite. A must-have!

Magic Fish Dreaming,  a full colour illustrated poetry book (36 pages),  is riding a Kickstarter wave, taking it from Australia across the ocean and seas into the homes of people living in many lands.

The books is inspired by the diverse people of Far North Queensland and their tropical environment full of some of the strangest birds and animals, as well as the resilient rainforest, cane farms and tropical beaches.

Brimming with the themes of nature, family, diversity, childhood and environment, Magic Fish Dreaming is inspired by the North Queensland community, environment, and creatures it shares. It is beautifully illustrated by award winning Artist Helene Magisson.

The author, June Perkins, a recent ASA (Australian Society of Authors) mentorship award recipient, and Write Links member for the last two years, is planning to self-publish this book with the help of a Kickstarter campaign.

June Perkins and Helene Magisson
With the support of Helene Magisson , editor Matilda Elliot and the Children’s Book Academy, June has been hard at work on the Kickstarter launch.

She is using Kickstarter to release the book into the world. Poetry books for children are an extremely difficult genre for mainstream publishers to pick up unless you are an already established poet with an agent.  Nevertheless she feels: “Poetry celebrating environment, peace and diversity remains important in today’s world.”  She is proud of the works she has crafted.

The book is written, professionally edited and almost ready to print once the illustrations are completed.

The Kickstarter will assist in paying for the rest of the illustrations, the pre-press layout and some of the printing costs.  As a backer you will receive your signed copy by the end of the year.

Kickstarter rewards include native animal soft toys, prints, stickers, bags, totem painted scarf inspired creations, and a beautifully hand crafted cassowary.

There are also a few workshop options that schools and organisations may like, done by Skype, email or in person.

June, Helene, and the rest of the Magic Fish Dreaming team would love it if you can spread the word on Twitter or Facebook or Google+ and by word of mouth to the many people, schools, family and friends you know would love this book!

June sends out a special thank you to all her Write Links buddies, whether published, or working on their manuscripts and thanks them for mentoring her creativity in the writing for children genre.

Good luck with the final stage. My family have lived in Cooktown for over 10 years and I know the children there will be interested in ‘Magic Fish Dreaming’.

“Magic Fish Dreaming” is one of these exceptional poetry books I’ve read when I was a bit younger. There is so much inspiration we can get from reading poems, and you will definitely feel the sam thing towards the said book. Since the book is very diverse when it comes to each topic of the poem featured on the book, you can also get different realizations from the featured poems. This is simply one of the reasons why I am so in love with the idea of reading poems!

Thanks for your good wishes. If you know anyone in Cooktown and can tell them about the book that would be great.
