The Pitch
Last Saturday, Write Links members practiced their story pitches as part of our writers’ activation session.
Author Rebecca Sheraton facilitated the activity with picture book, mid-grade and YA authors present.
The Plot Pitching activity
Verbally, we shared the main plot points of a picture book or novel chapter we had been working with a small group of Write Links members. They in turn asked for clarification of plot points and commented on pacing. Through the exercise we received feedback on what worked, what didn’t and received suggestions on what may work better.
1. In October, author Rebecca Johnson shared a plot-focussing technique with us. She explained how she verbally practiced the storyline with many people to develop a story that is believable and enticing. After she has fine-tuned the plot this way, she’s able to write a story structure an d complete the whole story.
2. During StoryArts Brisbane, attendees delivered first page pitches and story pitches to publishers and agents, which was very nerve wracking as well as exciting.
The benefits
We shared our stories in a relaxed, non-threatening way among friends and Write Links members. We received suggestions, feedback and support which spring boards ways to rewrite and improve our story.

Thanks Yvonne, for posting my blog on The Pitch.
I was thrilled at how many of our writers enjoyed pitching their Story at Write Links…and the ease at which they received positive feedback and suggestions.
Hope to see you all at our final meeting of 2019, on 7th December.
Cheers,
Karen
