A New Critique Group at Write Links!
Hello aspiring and emerging authors and illustrators!
Are you like me when I started writing and have googled extensively on ‘how to get published’ and found out that it’s super helpful to join a writing group and take part in critiques?
Well you have come to a wonderfully supportive and informative place here at Write Links!
Write Links meetings start off with one hour of professional development sessions, writing activations or creative wisdom followed by an hour of networking and ending with critique groups. When I joined up with Write Links in 2019 there were four groups:
- Picture book critique group
- Junior Fiction/ Middle grade critique group
- Young Adult Fiction critique group and the
- Illustration critique group
Click here to read more about the team who coordinates these groups.
Last month we added a new critique group!
- Upper Middle grade and Young YA critique group
Those who attended our April meeting were treated to an excellent workshop on
‘How to Critique Picture Books.’
With hot tips from Alison Rutstein, author of the 2024 Notable picture book ‘Ladybirds don’t go to Day Care’, and a ‘live critique’ run by prolific author Alison Mclennan . This was an informative session with loads of wisdom to take away.
We also have revamped critique guidelines which will ensure critiques run smoothly, fairly and that all members will get the best out of their feedback, all thanks to our fearless leader, author, illustrator and emcee extraordinaire Yvonne Mes.
So if you’re an aspiring, emerging, or established children’s author in Brisbane, are available to attend meetings at The State Library of Queensland on the first Saturday of the month and are eager to further your writing and forge friendships through critique groups, then why don’t you consider joining Write Links?
