Write Links meeting will be held at State Library of Qld in Meeting Room 1B on Saturday 3 August 2024

This will be a hybrid meeting so at the point of booking select ‘in person meeting’ or ‘zoom session’.

If you are coming just for the critique session no booking is required.

 

This is a special workshop meeting so we charge a fee to cover costs of the guest presenter. In this session, Josie will chat about the key points of adapting from manuscript to movie. As a prolific author who has been shortlisted and longlisted three times with QWC’s Adaptable Program, she will share her inside knowledge of what Producers are seeking as well as her technical expertise as a scriptwriter and filmmaker herself.

 

Adaptable

Adaptable is an annual program organised and managed by Queensland Writers Centre, with the support of Screen Queensland. It usually runs mid-November to mid-January.

The Program seeks material for film or television adaptation, and accepts submissions of manuscripts of any genre, fiction or non-fiction, published and unpublished. Successful applicants to the Program (up to 25 shortlisted writers) are given the opportunity to pitch works with potential for screen adaptation to producers, showrunners, screenwriters and industry professionals.

Josie Montano

Josie Montano is an award-winning author with over 20 years’ experience and 65 resources internationally published within a variety of genres. She writes under pseudonyms, fiction ‘Montano’ and Autism ‘Santomauro’.

Awards include Shortlisted ‘Adaptable’ QWC program – Gold Coast Film Festival; The Secret Science Spectacular Experiment: 2nd place Cat 2, Forevability Book Awards; writing residency-May Gibbs Children’s Literature Trust; FRIENDLY FACTS –Mom’s Choice Gold Award – USA; LITTLE PENGUIN Picture Book of the Year-CBCA Notable Book, THE BUBBLE-English Awards Best Children’s Illustrated Books, UK; POP STARLETS – SA Kanga Awards.

From age 9 she wanted to be an author, receiving her first rejection letter from Golden Books at 13.  Josie grew up in rural Australia within an Italian community, incorporating within her writing many of her experiences as a 1st generation Australian.

Josie’s a storyteller who strives to advocate as well as celebrate diversity within her works.
